The Sultanate of Oman has a coastline length of 3,165 kilometers extending till Yemen in the southern and UAE on the northern side. This lengthy coastline provides a strategic advantage to the nation to establish commercial ports to position Oman as a regional trans-shipment player. Also this long coastline, facilitates fishery related activities which is a part of its vision as follows:
“Oman’s economic vision is that, by 2040, the fisheries sector will become increasingly managed and financed by Omanis, and will employ young Omanis at competitive rates”
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries Wealth & Water Resources has a long term manifesto to build and operate many fishing harbours that can accommodate cold stores and canning industries for seafood, and thus have embarked on several aquaculture projects.
Keeping in mind the above potential of the marine and fishing industry in Oman, it would be highly beneficial to work towards developing local companies to join forces with similar experts from around the world to share their expertise and come together to build a more robust company with established base in Oman to fuel the ever growing development of Oman harbor and port industry.
